Summer 2012 is shaping up to be a pretty stellar season for movies, with films like The Dark Knight Rises, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Disney Pixar’s Brave just weeks away from hitting the big screen. And what better way to get excited about the upcoming films than by dressing for the part?
Sure, you could show up to the ticket counter in costume, but why not hit the cinema a little more stylishly? Some of my favorite cosmetic brands have been busy in their beauty labs whipping up movie-inspired products, like OPI and their Spider-Man nail polish collection and the Deborah Lippman’s exclusive Snow White and the Huntsman nail polish set listed below.
Want more matinee-ready make-up? Consider this your glam guide to some of this summer’s hottest movies. The next best movie accessory after a bucket of popcorn, these box office beauty products will have you swapping your licorice for lip balm.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Release Date: June 22
Apparently, penny-gracing 16th president Abraham Lincoln did more than just help abolish slavery. If the best-selling fiction book the movie is based on is to be believed, Abe also battled bloodsucking vampires during his tenure of office. For your own vampy lips, sink your teeth into Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, a two-in-one long-lasting lipstain and moisturizing lip balm combo.
Release Date: June 12
Princess Merida in Disney Pixar’s Brave breaks the mold of Disney’s conventional princess. Rather than wallowing away the hours waiting for her true love to come galloping in on his noble steed, our heroine takes a page from Mulan’s book and rolls up her sleeves to prove she’s more than just a pretty face. As a nod to the Princess’s fiery red hair, spirit, and movie title, choose MAC Brave Red lipstick.
Release Date: August 10
Combining some of the funniest guys currently in comedy, Will Ferrel and Zac Galifinakis play two North Carolina politicians competing for a seat in Congress. You’ll be patriotic and pretty with this American Flag Lip Tattoo by Violent Lips. Once applied, these appliqués will last up to 8 hours on your lips.
The Dark Knight Rises
Release Date: July 20
In one of this summer’s most-anticipated follow-ups, Batman is joined by whip-carrying kitty Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Channel your inner feline femme fatale with Stila’s Black Cat, a shimmering black shade available as either an eye shadow or gel liner Smudge Pot.
The Expendables 2
Release Date: August 17
Notorious butt-kicking badasses Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and Jet Li appear in this sequel to 2010′s movie. Sephora Favorites The Leading Man Deluxe Fragrance Sampler For Him is the perfect sidekick to the movie, offering 5 deluxe-sized men’s cologne samples and a certificate towards a free full-sized fragrance!
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Release Date: June 29
The real American heroes are back to take on not one but two evil villains in this sequel to 2009′s The Rise of the Cobra. While I’ll always root for the good guys, here’s a Cobra I wouldn’t mind teaming up with. Urban Decay’s recently revamped eyeshadow in the color Cobra is a gotta-have-it matte black flecked with micro gold glitter.
Ice Age 4: Continental Drift
Release Date: July 13
The newest installment to the Ice Age story sees the return of Sid, Diego, Ellie and Scrat, as well as the poor squirrel who is still clamoring for that elusive acorn. Whether you decide to catch the movie in 3D or 2D, you’ll look cool in Shiseido’s Ice, a silvery blue shimmering cream eye color that remains budge-proof for up to 16 hours.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
Release Date: June 8
In the latest chapter to the Madagascar movies, the zany zoo crew continues to try to make their way back to NYC, this time by taking up with a traveling circus. Just about as colorful and fun as the characters themselves, this brightly colored set of Sephora by OPI Scentsational Fruit-Scented Nail Lacquers includes scents like Mango, Tutti Fruitti, and Watermelon.
Rock of Ages
Release Date: June 15
The Sunset Strip has been *the* spot for what’s hot and happening in Hollywood for decades. The famous street acts as the setting for this musical movie, which takes place in the midst of the late 1980s, when heavy metal hair bands and acid-washed jeans were all the rage. Rock out with the NARS lipgloss that shares the same name, Sunset Strip. The shiny, semi-sheer gloss is a perfect for summer peachy tangerine shade.
Release Date: July 6
Movie characters Ben and Chon have a green thumb, but not of the basil or thyme growing type. Overlooking the obvious cosmetic connection here, I’m loving the Bettie Page ‘do Salma Hayek can be seen sporting in the movie trailer. TheBalm’s Betty-Lou Manizer pays tribute to the ’50s pin-up and offers the wearer glowy goodness when applied as an eye shadow, bronzer, or all over face color.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
Release Date: June 22
Ex-Office star Steve Carrell teams up with Keira Knightley to show us that living in a post-apocalyptic world can somehow be funny. Whether you’re taking on an asteroid or a packed theater, you’ll survive in style with the help of The Minimergency Kit for Her, which comes equipped with 16 end-of-the-world essentials like deodorant towelettes and Advil.
Snow White and the Huntsman
Release Date: June 1
Forget everything you think you know about Snow White and all that singing to birds and dancing with dwarfs stuff. The Snow White in this movie comes bearing an armor, sword, and shield, prepared to challenge the evil queen (who, despite looking like the stunning Charlize Theron, has a jealousy of Jan Brady-like proportions.) Don this Deborah Lippmann Snow White & The Huntsmen Set on your digits and you’ll be the fairest one of all.
