Win a Pair of Eyeglasses in our GlassesUSA Giveaway

GlassesUSA prescription eyeglasses

Glasses have certainly come a long way. They used to be big, bulky and only associated with nerds. Maybe the tape in the top center of the frame had something to do with that. But these days, there are so many options to choose from, and so many more people are wearing them.

They’re also even easier to get. Sure you can still find a local eyeglass store and shop around, but you can also order glasses from the convenience of your own home. Take GlassesUSA for example. They offer prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses for men and women in a slew of shapes, types and styles. You’ll find all the popular brands on the site as well, including GUESS, Ferrari, Tom Ford, Converse, Kenneth Cole and more.

R.I.P. Scout

Last night the world lost one of the sweetest dogs around, Scout. She never failed to greet us with a smile and a wag of the tail every morning when we came to work. She was the best office dog anyone could ask for and she’ll sorely be missed. Thank you for all the love you shared, Scout. Rest in peace, girl.

Swimsuits that Sizzle from Kohl’s

With spring in full gear and summer quickly on the way, I’ve been eyeing swimsuits every time I walk into a store. One of my favorite places to go for swimwear is Kohl’s. Okay, let’s be honest, Kohl’s is one of my favorite places to go for anything! They have such a wide variety of clothing, jewelry and shoes. Plus, they are always having a great sale or offering cash back for shopping. What can be better than getting paid to shop? Not much, I tell you, not much.

The other day I went in to Kohl’s to use a gift card and I fell in love with a few of the swimsuits below. This year I am looking forward to trying out a few different styles and really getting away from the same ole typical bikini. Let me know which one is your favorite.

ELLE Ruffled Bandeau One-Piece Swimsuit – $56.99

There is just something about a one-piece swimsuit that screams sexy, at least to me anyway. Add a little ruffle to the front and it’s even better. I love that this swimsuit is simple and black, but flirty and fun. I think that the ruffle across the front would be really flattering, too. Perfect for concealing all of the cookies/brownies/ice cream that I eat. : )

Feel the Sting – Burt’s Bees

With spring already here and summer quick to follow, I wanted to share one of my favorite brands with y’all today…Burt’s Bees. They make so many amazing products, from chapstick to lotion to hair products. I have tried almost everything that they make and I have never been left disappointed.

Burt’s Bees is a company that makes personal care products with beeswax and other natural ingredients. They strive to keep all of their products as natural as possible and are working to make every single product 100% natural. They even put a tag on each product on their website to report how “natural” it is. They also do not test their products on animals, which is something that I am so thankful for. You might be thinking that they must be pretty expensive products, but they are actually really affordable.

Today I’m going to share some of my favorite Burt’s Bees products. Read on and let me know if y’all have ever tried any of these and what y’all think of them.

Chemical Free Sunscreen SPF 30 - $15.00

This sunscreen is 100% natural and has a high dose of sun protection. This is perfect for everyday use because it is all natural and has a clean smell. It won’t leave you feeling sticky or greasy, which is always a plus in my book! I just love that it doesn’t have that “typical” sunscreen smell.

Use Drugstore.com coupons to help knock that price down.

Cranberry & Pomegranate Body Butter - $13.00

Oh how I love this moisturizer. I just cannot say enough good things about it. First, let’s start with the smell. Pomegranate is one of my favorite scents and this body butter smells like a little piece of Heaven in my book. It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth like silk. Even my husband noticed how soft my hands were after I used it! That’s saying a lot.

Beeswax Lip Balm - $3.00

If there is one thing that that I have to have on me at all times, it is chapstick. Now don’t get me wrong, there are other things that I want to have on me, like my cell phone and some money, but chapstick is the one thing that I really need all throughout the day. This is BY FAR my favorite lip balm ever. I am pretty obsessed with it and I get really upset if I have to use another brand. It leaves my lips SO soft. I have a tube in my makeup bag, my purse, my locker at work and my car. Like I said, it is a must have for me! You can get it at Wal-Mart.

Lemon & Vitamin E Bath and Body Oil - $8.00

I use this when I am almost done showering. You just need a small quarter-sized amount. I rinse off quickly and then towel dry and the results are amazing. My skin is so silky and soft. It has a lemon/clean scent, but I don’t notice it once I dry off. I just feel soft and clean. This has been a major help for me because I tend to have really dry skin, especially in the winter. I haven’t had any dry spots or any itching… and I know that it is thanks to this awesome product.

Lip Shimmer - $5.00

This is definitely my favorite product from Burt’s Bees. Like I said above, I love their lip balm, but I like to have a little bit of color on my lips. This does it. There are over 10 colors and each one has a little bit of shimmer in it. I was worried that it wouldn’t actually put any color on my lips, but it really does. The darker colors actually make it look like I have on lipstick! I like the pinker tinted ones… they leave my lips looking fresh and glowing, which is perfect for this pretty weather. It is definitely worth the $5.00 price tag!

So those are a few of my favorite Burt’s Bees products, but the list could go on and on. They have facial cleansers and shampoo/conditioner, which I love. I just am impressed with the quality of all of their products. They make me feel so fresh and clean, and I love that I know that their products are made with natural ingredients.

Have y’all ever tried any of their products? Were y’all impressed?

Dog Days – Top Picks for Your Pup

Everyone has heard that familiar quote: “a dog is man’s best friend.” I firmly believe that this is true. Pets of all kinds are so special, but there is just something about dogs that really makes that bond between animal and human run deep. Maybe it’s that sweet face or that endlessly wagging tail; maybe it’s the fierce loyalty or the constant companionship. Whatever it is that bonds a man/woman and a dog, it’s a strong bond that lasts forever.

We have three dogs in our house: a lab, a pitbull and a golden retriever. Sometimes it can be quite a handful to have three BIG dogs, but we wouldn’t trade them for anything, even if it meant having a cleaner house! Smile I can count on them to be waiting with wagging tails every single time I come home. They give their best to us, so in turn we want to give the best to them.

Our pups: Cashmere, Radar and Diesel

Below are a few of our favorite dog products, tested and approved by our beloved babies.

 Dingo Rawhide Chews - $5.58

These chews are our favorite go-to treats. They have real meat in the center and are then wrapped in rawhide. They come in various sizes, so they are perfect for any size dog. We (obviously) have to get the large ones. They also come in beef flavor or chicken flavor. Not only are these great for their teeth as they chew, they also give us a few moments of quiet. Smile

Kong Toys - $10.39

We have probably tried over a hundred toys for our dogs, but most don’t even make it through one night. Diesel, our pitbull, is a big chewer and can tear most toys to pieces in a few minutes. I had heard that Kong toys were long lasting, so I finally gave in and purchased one. Boy, am I glad that I did! They are definitely worth the pricier tag because they actually last. We have several that have lasted months… and are still around to boast (like this one). If you have a dog that is a chewer, try these. They have several sizes and even ones that you can stuff with treats to keep them entertained for awhile.

Isle of Dogs Shampoo - $11.99

I used to think that dog shampoo wasn’t really important and I would just use whatever I had at home or buy whatever was cheapest at the store. I was given an Isle of Dogs shampoo by a friend once and I haven’t stopped using it since. Not only does it clean thoroughly, it smells wonderful and leaves their coats moisturized and silky smooth. The dogs still don’t really enjoy their baths, but we sure do.

Rubber Brush - $3.45

We have a rubber brush that is made to get rid of the dead, loose dog hair without actually pulling or hurting. Brushing our pups is absolutely mandatory for us. Our lab and golden retriever both shed so much that we could probably make clothing out of their hair. Not that we would, but y’all get what I’m saying. :) We try to brush them a few times a week and I’m always amazed at how much hair comes off of them. The more hair on the brush, the less hair on my floor… and that makes me happy. I’ve been wanting to try the FURminator. Have any of y’all ever tried it? It’s a little pricey, but apparently amazing.

Kids Week at the Intrepid or My Day With Chewbacca

Me and my new BFF!

Yesterday was Presidents’ Day, my new favorite holiday. And in keeping with American traditions of honoring people by not working, most schools are off this entire week.

So my wife and I celebrated by taking our two boys to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum down in Manhattan. This former aircraft carrier is now a full-fledged museum. You can learn the history of this great ship, as well as take a tour of the command center and even walk through a real submarine that was used during the Cold War. (Talk about sardines!) On the hangar deck, there’s dozens of real jets, planes and helicopters to see. Oh, and this summer the Space Shuttle Enterprise is coming! It’s actually pretty darn cool for a museum.

How to Score Free Books, Music and Apps for Your Kindle Fire

So you’ve got yourself a Kindle Fire. (Maybe you even got it for free from us!) Awesome! And now you want to fill it with loads of great content, but you’ve maxed out your budget. No worries, there are plenty of ways to get free goodies, including ebooks, music and apps. Here’s a quick look at just how you can get the most out of your Kindle Fire without spending a fortune (or even a dime).

Amazon Apps
Sure, you already know how to get free apps on your phone or Kindle Fire, but most of those are ad-supported. However, the Amazon Appstore for Android offers a different full-version app for FREE every single day. These aren’t free trial versions, they’re the same version you’d pay 99 cents to $3.99 per app on any other day. So check back daily and download for free!

Download Free eBooks
Amazon offers hundreds of free ebooksyou can download anytime. Besides all the free classics (Pride & Prejudice, Dracula, A Tale of Two Cities), Amazon is constantly changing up it’s stock of free eBooks from fiction to cookbooks to children’s books.

Check Your Library
Have you been to your local library lately? The formerly stuffy/dusty ol’ places are quickly embracing today’s technology. Many of them will let you borrow eBooks for your Kindle, Nook or other eReaders. Check your library’s website (or Amazon’s list of libraries) to see if they participate. There are limits to the number of eBooks you can borrow and just like physical books, you may find yourself on a waiting list for the more popular titles.

Download Free Music from Your Public Library
Besides eBooks, your local ibrary’s website may also let you download (and keep) mp3s if they’re part of a music-sharing network like Freegal. There are limitations (such as “3 downloads per week, per library card”), but the selection is great and you get to keep the songs.

Borrow from Your Friends
Just like a real book, you can borrow an eBook from a friend. And you don’t even need a Kindle to do so! It’s up to the book’s publisher to decide if an eBook is eligible or not, but if so, each book can be lent out once for a period of 14 days. Amazon’s lending libraryruns the full process down for you.

Borrow Best Sellers from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library
Okay, so this one isn’t completely free, but the $79 annual membership fee for Amazon Prime comes with some great benefits. Besides getting Free 2-day shipping on any purchases from Amazon (with no minimum), you also get free access to Amazon’s instant streaming movies and TV shows. But the newest perk is that Prime Members have access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library where you can borrow over 100 popular NY Times best-sellers. You’re limited to one book per month, but with 50,000 titles to choose from, you shouldn’t have a problem finding 12 a year. Plus if you would’ve bought those 12 eBooks normally, that more than pays for the annual Prime Membership itself.
