Celebrate National Scrabble Day

Sixty three years ago, a game was created by a man by the name of Alfred Mosher Butts. Growing up with a last name like Butts wasn’t easy, as he was often the subject of playground taunts and the butt end (see what we did there?) of mean-spirited jokes. Butts wished there was a way he could easily rearrange the letters of his last name to an entirely different, less misfortunate word. It was this wish that lead Butts to a brilliant idea that would later turn into the invention of one of the most popular board games of all time, Scrabble.

While very, very little of the above story is true (okay, almost none of it) it is true that today, April 13, is National Scrabble Day. National Scrabble Day is celebrated on the creator’s (Alfred Mosher Butts) birthday each year. It is said that this popular board game can be found in 1 of every 3 homes across America. If you’re part of the other two thirds who don’t already own this fun, word spelling game (or, if you’re just looking to switch up from the traditional version), we’ve got a few unique suggestions listed for you below.
