Back in the ’80s, I remember everyone showing off their style with Swatch watches. These were basic watches that came in fun, bright colors, but they also had “Swatch Guards,” which were rubber protectors that cover half the face of the watch. But again, they came in crazy colors.
These days most people don’t even wear a watch, they use their cell phones instead. And whether it’s a protective case or just a neat skin, you can pretty much wrap your phone in any style you like. Robots. Comic book art. Sports teams. Bands. Food. You name it.
I’ve never really had anything other than a plain black protective case for my iPhone 4S. So when I was approached to try out GelaSkins, I jumped at the chance.
There’s a crazy amount of different styles to choose from, and the site’s pretty well organized. It definitely leans more towards the alternative and artistic side though. Which means you’re in for some truly unique pieces of artwork. With over 100 artists and 1,000 pieces of art, it’d be pretty impossible not to find something you like.
You can narrow your choices down by mobile device (iPhones, iPads, iPods, laptops, tables, etc.), getting as specific as the exact model. See, Gelaskins are just like they sound. They’re re-stickable “stickers” that cover your device on a number of sides. They come in separate pieces and get attached to your device to make it look like one overall theme.
Here’s the 4 separate GelaSkins I ordered. Upper left and bottom right are for iPhones, while the other two are iTouches.
Pac-Man Fever!
After looking around for a bit, I ended up choosing a fun Pac-Man Ghostbusters theme from BustedTees. (My kids each chose different robots, and my wife a cool cosmic scene.) They were all super easy to apply and didn’t interfere with any of the buttons or camera lenses on our iPhones and iTouches. There’s even a wallpaper I downloaded for free from the Gelaskins app, to give the front of my phone the overall theme.
Simple to install and just like that, you’re mobile device suddenly has 100 times the personality.
Even cooler, you can actually use your own photos or drawings to create a GelaSkin from scratch! And if you’re real concerned about super protection for your device and prefer a hard case, many of the styles come in that variety too.
Regular GelaSkins average about $14.95 each, while the hard cases average $34.95.
