Make a Splash with Finding Nemo 3D

Swimming into theaters this weekend, Finding Nemo hits the big screen for the first time in 3D. First released in 2003, the Disney/Pixar computer-animated movie won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The movie will also make it’s first debut on Blu-ray when it’s re-released on December 4.

But you don’t have to wait to “sea” the movie in order to dive into the fishy flick. Flip for your favorite Nemo character with the “reel-y” cool character-inspired products featured in the sets below.

Top Toys From Our Childhood: Then & Now

If you saw Ted in movie theaters this summer, you saw the friendship between John (played by Mark Wahlberg) and his beloved childhood toy, crude talking teddy bear, Ted. The movie got us thinking about our favorite toys that we had when we were growing up.

Although many of them probably ended up in a garage sale or tucked away somewhere in the attic, these toys still hold a special place in our hearts. Take a walk down memory lane with us as we look at 6 top toys you may remember from your own childhood and where they are now.

In celebration of Universal Studios’ 100th anniversary, Jaws, Indiana Jones, and E.T. will be released for the first time on Blu-ray and are now available to pre-order.

It may have been a while since you paid a visit to your local library. Afterall, it seems like everything can be done online nowadays – including reading books! While we agree that downloading a book to your eReader can be instantly satisfying, there are still plenty of great reasons to stop by your local library. Aside from that wonderful feeling you get from holding a real book in your hands and turning paper pages to reveal the next line in a story, libraries hold plenty of other treasures that can be enjoyed absolutely free!

Manicures to Marvel: Nail Art Inspired by The Avengers

http://polish-me-pretty.tumblr.com/tagged/avengers%20nailsWhile I thoroughly enjoy action/adventure movies, I have to admit that it was more than just the promise of theatrical thrills that had me forking my hard earned cash over to see The Avengers this week. Put back the Milk Duds and Sno Caps, ladies. This movie is packed with enough eye candy to give you a toothache. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and bow carrying cutie Jeremy Renner, who gives even hunky Lord of the Rings Legolas a run for his money. *swoon*

But aside from enjoying the movie (and ogling the actors), I took more away from the movie than I anticipated. Other than learning that it seems like a terrible idea to ever move to New York City (seriously, doesn’t it seem like NYC gets blown up or taken over by aliens in nearly every action or sci-fi movie?!), I was inspired by the characters and their costumes. As a cosmetic junkie, I often find makeup motivation and nail polish ideas in some of the most random places. Not one to shy away from vibrant color, glitter, or prints, I’m often influenced by the interesting things around me, whether it’s the sparkling blue ocean I live beside or the amazing makeup artistry I find in magazines and movies.

While my nails don’t even begin  to hold a candle to the ones below, here’s my quick attempt at channeling The Hulk. With all of this bright green glitter, I think I’ll call it Hulk Smash! :)

In this case, I was inspired by The Avengers, and as it turns out, I’m not alone. Much like the superheroes in the movie, these gals possess some extraordinary abilities of their own, by way of steady hands and truck loads of creativity. The Avengers-inspired nail art in these lacquered looks are 1 part geeky and 1 part girly, which makes for a heckuva combination! Although many nail polish companies release movie-inspired collections (like OPI’s Spider-Man or Muppets sets), these girls mixed up their own colorful concoctions to create these manicure masterpieces. Let’s scroll, shall we?

A Super Way to See The Avengers

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been counting down to May 4th for months, ticking away time making Iron Man Mash-ups and ogling Marvel-inspired nail lacquer. The hugely anticipated movie, The Avengers, hits theaters this Friday, and teams up a culmination of some of the mightiest superheroes the silver screen has seen in one movie, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and The Hulk. You’ll spot the same star-studded cast from the previous movies redonning their costumes, including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, as well as Mark Ruffalo stepping in as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

If you’re not yet familiar with where Captain America got that crazy cool shield or what makes Iron Man’s armor glow, you’ll definitely want to brush up before hitting the latest installment. And there’s no better way to do it than to catch the The Avengers Movie Marathon this Thursday, May 3rd!

For one day only, select theaters will be presenting a Mighty Marvel Marathon which assembles all 6 remarkable movies, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor 3D, and Captain America 3D playing back to back. The day is then capped off with the premiere of the newest movie to the franchise, The Avengers in 3D! The cost of admission to this event varies (see links below), but expect to pay anywhere between $20-$40.

Eager beavers attending the Marvel marathon will be rewarded handsomely. Ticket holders among the first in line will score free limited-edition swag, like collector’s pins and movie posters. Movie goers will also be able to enjoy concession goodies at a deliciously discounted price. Large popcorn refills and regular hot dogs will set you back just $2, and refills for large fountain drinks and frozen drinks are only a buck. Although, with more than 12 hours of film to watch and no rewind button, we strongly suggest minimal liquid consumption.

Say Ahoy to The Pirates! 3D Movie

If you like pirates, claymation, or family friendly movies, get your booty to the nearest theater this weekend! “The Pirates! Band of Misfits in 3D” movie sets sail today, April 27, and is chock full of 88 minutes worth of action, adventure, and plenty of PG-rated humor for a swashbucklin’ good time! Based on the Pirates! novels by Gideon Defoe, the movie sees down-on-his-luck Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) and his ragtag crew face off for the ultimate treasure, the “Pirate of the Year” Award. Other talents who lend their voice to the cast of characters include Salma Hayek, Martin Freeman, Imelda Staunton, and Jeremy Piven.

If the UK-based stop-motion animation looks familiar, here’s why: the movie is from Aardman Animations, the same studio who has produced hits like Chicken Run, Flushed Away, Wallace and Grommet, Shaun the Sheep, and (depending on how good your memory is) the claymation seen way back when on Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.

Oh, and if you’re seeing the movie at a Regal, UA, or Edward Cinema, be sure to snag a mobile coupon good for $2 off the price of a hot dog! Mmm…hot dogs!

Arrrr, matey! Fun, merriment, and free games awaits ye at The Pirates! Official Movie website!

Save it for a Rainy Day – Films for the Spring Time

My boyfriend likes it when I watch films “with substance.” I agree, but being the happy go lucky person that I am, I also like to watch movies that make me feel good and leave me feeling joyful and thankful. There are some great movies that are good to watch during the rainy spring days when it’s cold outside and you don’t feel like pulling out your rain boots. Plus you can snuggle with your pup or invite them to watch a movie with you (just saying). ;)

So what kind of films do you like? Do you like movies that make you laugh or make you cry? Or maybe a little bit of both will do it for you. I like a little bit of everything. From chick flicks to drama films, it really depends on my mood. I used to not be able to handle the more intense films, like Changeling, for example, but now I’m better. Even though, I have to admit that Changeling, as good as the film is, still gives me the shivers. I don’t think I could watch that film again.

But anyway, here are some films that I think you should definitely put on your rainy day movie list. Then when the rain storm hits you’ll all be set with a movie, popcorn, your fuzzy fur baby, and warm blankets to keep you cozy.

One of my favorite films with Zac Effron (come on you know he’s cute!) is Charlie St. Cloud. After reading the book I watched the movie in the theater with my mom a few years back and I loved the screen adaptation. If you’re in the mood for an ocean dreams film that has gorgeous sites of the sea, sail boats, and a little bit of spiritual ghostly elements, this film is for you. Plus – it has a great love story and it’s all about letting go. It also has amazing twists and turns – you’ll never guess what comes at the end! ;)

If you’re not afraid of dark twisty characters with a mysterious past you might want to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. At first I was hesitant about seeing this film, but after going to the theater to watch this movie as well – it won me over. Not only does it have incredible acting, but it’s intense, keeps you on your toes, and reveals the secrets behind a family disappearance. This film is definitely not suitable for children, but if you have a cozy night in with your significant other I can guarantee you’ll be wanting the sequel to be here ASAP as much I do.

Water for Elephants is another great movie based off of a book and yes, I read this book as well. :) I thought the film was a great adaptation and who doesn’t love heartthrob Robert Pattinson? Well, believe it or not I never really liked this actor until I watched this film. I felt he breathed life into his character quite beautifully and his chemnistry with Reese Witherspoon is quite dynamic. During a circus adventures with a sweet elephant named Rosy you’ll find yourself falling in love with all of the characters, well, minus the bi-polar circus owner.

Another film I was hesitant watching was The King’s Speech, but thanks to my boyfriend we watched this while traveling one evening and I couldn’t help but be sucked into the king’s journey of overcoming his fear of speaking in public. With a great ensemble cast and true-to-life events, this movie is great at making you realize that anyone can overcome their fears with a little bit of realization and self confidence.

So are there any movies that I’m missing that I should have mentioned? Of course, there are several great films that will soon be released and I’m dying to see The Hunger Games. I love watching movies in general, and when it’s cold and rainy in April I think this is the best time to hunker down, get out your favorite films, and have a movie session.
