Captain America: The First Avenger came out on DVD, Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray this week. Also, digital copies! Of course, this is just one more step towards the new Avengers movie, which probably has more hype built for it than anything since the Star Wars universe expanded. That’s okay, superheroes are used to fighting against the odds. And aliens.
In honor of the good Captain, I thought I’d share my Top 5 Superhero Movies of All Time! Please note, this is just a matter of opinion, and no, I don’t consider Buckaroo Banzai a superhero (but he is badass).
Top 5 Superhero Movies of All Time
You’ve got lots of action, cursing and gore. The fact that most of it comes at the hands (and mouth) of a 12-year-old little girl makes for a pretty original story. Also, nerds!
4. Iron Man
Dare I say this was the role that Robert Downey, Jr. was born to play? His take on Tony Stark is so perfect that it will probably live in infamy. The suit is cool, too.
This is Disney-Pixar’s take on the superhero story. It has family fun with tons of action and humor. The Incredibles is just that: incredible.
2. Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man was a good film, but the sequel was fantastic. The scene where an unmasked Spidey is carried by the train-riding citizens of New York gets everybody’s spider sense tingling. Part three was less so.
The sequel to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, gets a lot of publicity, but I thought that Christian Bale’s performance here as Bruce Wayne on a downward spiral was darn near Oscar-worthy. Now with wonderful toys!
And there you have it, my Top 5 Superhero Movies of All Time. What’s on your list?
