Loree's Blogs
I pride myself somewhat on being well-read, but there are definitely some classic I never got around to reading (or just lightly skimmed them when they popped up on high school and college reading lists). Here are a few that I'd love to get around to (but let's be honest--it'll probably never happen).
In the past couple of years, I have become somewhat obssessed with Lush products. It started with their bath bombs and melts, but recently I've tried everything from solid shampoos to fresh face masks. Over Christmas, I picked up a barrel of Lush goodies. A few of my faves: Honey I Washed the Kids Soap: I'm not a huge bar soap fan, but I love this stuff. It has an awesome toffee-honey smell and it manages to get pretty sudsy with a loofah while still being moisturizing. The honeycomb bit...
I finally got going with EA Active 2 this morning. Previously, I had used EA Active: More Workouts (I never used the disc that came with the very first version). A few thoughts and comparisons: The new EA HRM: The new game comes with a heart rate monitor that you wear on your arm and a similar device you wrap around your leg to track movements. I have a Polar HRM that I wear typically when working out and I decided to wear both my HRM and the EA HRM when using EA Active (partially because...
So, I stepped on the scale for the first time in a long time this morning, and although I knew what was coming, I was still pretty unpleased with the results. I'm definitely a yo-yo dieter (although my thing has always been exercise more than diet) so my weight has fluctuated wildly over the years. I have had some success: right after I graduated college in 2003, I lost about 40 pounds on Weight Watchers (getting down to about 130-135) and managed to sustain that weight for a few years. But...
Biggest suggestion (which I'm sure you've heard a zillion times) is to drink lots of water. It's not only healthy but it can fill you up. Also, when you're craving something like mad and think you're starving, wait 20 minutes before doing anything rash! If you're still... more (January 3 at 10:22pm)
I am a lover of hair products, but I've been on a pretty tight budget this year, so I've had to be quite a bit more thrifty (read: no more impulse hair product purchases). I was visiting my parents the week before Christmas and stopped in Mastercuts (of all places) in the mall and was thrilled to see that the gift sets were 50 percent off. Here are two of the five items that I scored for $20 (total)!
...but I am going to try to make this for Thanksgiving. I have better luck with desserts than entree-type dishes, but I still need everyone to cross your fingers for me. Mama Daisy's Banana Pudding (via Food Network)
Does anyone else eschew the big family get-togethers and do their own thing on Thanksgiving? It probably sounds a bit depressing, but although Boss and I still try to pull something together food-wise, we otherwise just chill out and hang around the house. It started out this way when I graduated college and we lived in NY, and we couldn't afford to get home to KY for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. But now, I actually kind of prefer it. I love our families, but it's a lot less stressful to...
I'm a sucker for the in-salon pedicure experience. Unfortunately, I'm pretty broke right now, and I typically save my pedicure splurges for the summer when my toes are more often on display. But sometimes, especially when it's cold outside like it is now and dry skin is bothersome, it's nice to try to replicate the experience at home.
I love buying office/school supplies...pens, folders, you name it. It might be because I'm a naturally disorganized person, and for a few minutes, when I'm navigating the office-supply aisle, I can hang on to this small slice of hope that maybe after this shopping trip, I will finally succumb to my Type-A tendencies and become a really, truly organized person. (This has yet to happen--I might be the only person on the planet who has a totally Type A personality but can't manage to leave my...
I have that weird naturally half-curly/half-wavy (all frizzy) hair. I usually pull it back into a little bun or blow-dry it out straight. But sometimes I decide to "embrace the curl," which, of course, requires hair products. These are some of my best bets...
