Picking the Perfect Anniversary Gift

by Whit (May 5 at 1:03am)

You have probably heard that the big deal this weekend is Mother's Day. I still have to shop for that. Normally I would just send my mom a card, maybe some flowers, but that's because we are usually a few states away. This year she is coming for a visit, which ups the ante on my end.

Also, I need to take the boys shopping so they can buy something for their mother. They are leaning towards comic books, or anything with Hawkgirl (see left), which she would actually love. And yet, as hard as it is to believe, and even with all of the shopping I have on my plate, I'm not even thinking about Mother's Day. Much. I have bigger fish to fry.

Next week is our 10th anniversary, and while we have plans that have slowly dwindled (along with our bank account) from a long weekend out of town to a nice dinner down the street, I figure I should do something cool on the gift front.

There are a few factors that I have to consider. My wife will not want me to buy her clothes, and my shoe purchases would likely be along the less-than-romantic lines of a pair of Converse. So that's out.

I don't want to get anything big, by which I am literally talking about size. We're moving in June and the idea of buying anything that makes our move more difficult does not appeal to me.

That leaves me with tickets to something fun, but there isn't much going on that night that jumps out at me, or books. Yes, books.

My wife reads about five books a week, more if she has some quiet time. Granted, books may not excite some people, but in her case, I think it will be a winner.

This is what I'm looking at, some of which may not seem like a big deal to the rest of you, but they are perfectly suited to her, and that's the idea.

Right?

I should probably buy all of them.

dreamcatcher Aww, how very thoughtful! what about an e-reader, like a Kindle or something? (May 5 at 5:32pm)

Venice I was thinking of a kindle or Nook. It's small and thin, and easily moveable. Plus, less books to move if it's on the Kindle or Nook. (May 6 at 2:41pm)

Whit She's very much about a book being a book and has gone on record that she has no interest in Kindles or Nooks. Thanks for the idea, but not for her. (May 6 at 3:29pm)
